Seabird

There’s a song that was introduced to me quite some time back. Introduced by someone I keenly listen to – and very much to my benefit. He has not only a knack for patience but a wonderfully eloquent affection for music.

It’s called Seabird, by the Alessi Brothers. It’s extraordinary and has a certain but effortless melancholy, enough to suit your very own and quickly dispel it.

And I have been away from land too long and need to come home…

…so I am back with great excitement and enthusiasm – and a familiar sense of calm and serenity that follows an outpouring of words – not indulged for years.

It’s exciting to be again rolling with the blog-post-punches and expressing a little of my one true love and motivation…other than my most beloved motorbike, of course.

Here’s a few from a recent jaunt to the Brecon Beacons in Wales. Skirrid Mountain it’s called, or to call it by it’s real name, Ysgyryd Fawr or ‘Holy Mountain’.

It’s the first time in years I’ve taken pictures only for myself and me alone. Oh how I loved it, running and darting about, falling over and perspiring energetically.

There’s nothing really more to them than a re-stoked fire, picking up a fiercer flame.

And that’s the beauty.

It’s been an awful long while since I was last here and for that I feel really rather terrible…

…so I am here to make partial amends. Here’s a few bits-and-bobs shot over a fair number of months.

All about time

It’s been a while but I am back. Back at last and it’s a wonderful feeling.

Loads of video work and some super stills assignments in far away lands and now I am here, stirring, whirring and coiled like a soft spring.

It’s about time; I am not finished yet!

This is a promo I made for a very good friend of mine. He has an undeniable and innate talent for all things beautifully crafted. I suggest you all take a good look at his work. Hugely keen to do more of these sweet little things

These two edits were a pleasure to shoot. My colleague is an absolute star and so easy to work with.

A Bespoke Banter production/Produced by Catrin Griffiths/Camera and sound, me

This edit was great fun and shot in a brilliantly incongruous setting. The light, however, was much too bright and really quite unhelpful…as were the rush hour beeps, bumps and bangs.

A Bespoke Banter production/Camera and sound: Me

These are always good shoots, if not ever-so-slightly intense.

A Bespoke Banter production. Camera: Me and lovely Adam Fletcher (on super slow mo!)

This was crazy! My stills for this can be seen here

In this one, I shot Topshop, Erdem and Hakaan Yildirim. This is the no faces edit

Another wonderful Bespoke Banter production.

British Beauty

A couple of weeks ago I spent the best part of a week working on a job for L’Oreal. The team were truly ace and it was a wonderful assignment – from start to finish.

The visual idea was to shoot a few interviews and then simply get on the streets and piece together great footage of ‘people’; nice close-ups, slow mo etc. I had to direct, which was a challenge and really quite tiring, but amazing fun and hugely rewarding.

So here it is:

Bed Head

A month or so ago I hit up Parklife Festival in Manchester to shoot for Tigi Bed Head. I can say, categorically, that the job was thoroughly enjoyable, but the festival itself…well…it wasn’t my cup-of-tea.

I drove up from London with a producer/editor and spent two days shooting behind the scenes, interviews, product shots etc.

And this is what we put together.

Still Images

I am a happy man!

Over four years ago I started out as a photographer. Little did I know at the time but a real and necessary transition into video work was essential to my survival…so…I started shooting more moving pictures and less stills.

But now! I ve managed to secure some wonderful photography clients that have levelled out my ratio of Video:Stills to 60:40 – and I am happy about that!

A couple of weeks ago I was sent up north to photograph Manchester Grammar School for a great publishing company.

Here’s a few shots…

BTS

Working behind the scenes is great…except…it’s mental, completely mad and relentless!

That all said, I love it, absolutely.

I can only post a sneak-peek at the moment…

…but welcome to BTS on a gigantic Rimmel shoot with a very lovely Georgia May Jagger.

Baby/Lon

Welcome to a rather brilliant production – with a rather exciting cast – and an even more amazing raison d’etre.

The Big House Theatre Company provides an expressive platform for care leavers who risk falling foul of social exclusion. The company is fronted by Maggie Norris, an extraordinarily enthusiastic and determined woman on a mission to ensure these individuals have a voice.

In fact, their most recent production, Baby/Lon, is based on the experiences of the cast, which only adds to the intensity and power of the play, really!

I was asked to shoot some individual shots of the cast in situ. The light was low, eratic, time minimal and the cast ever-so-slightly ruffled after five days of continuous performing…but…it was great fun and an absolute pleasure.

The Corporate Conference

This is the second international conference I ve had the pleasure of shooting.

It was quite an enjoyable endeavour, really, and we were a team of three; a cameraman (me), a lovely editor and a producer/spieler.

We shoot throughout the day and then deliver an edit to be played the following morning. Three edits in total.

Oh…and it was in Munich – so could be worse!

Welcome to the Innovation conference.

Kent and Curwen

My first ever attempt at shooting a fashion show! Madness. I never thought I’d find myself working on these jobs – but I am far from complaining!

This was an edit shot for historic British brand, Kent and Curwen, courtesy of clever communications company, Bespoke Banter.

Thoroughly enjoyed every single – sweating-it-out – minute.

Company: Bespoke Banter

Director: Scott Wimsett

First Camera: Me!

Second Camera: Sam Orams
